Dr. Petronella Bell M.D DFAACAP, SFAAP: is an experienced double boarded medical doctor with specialization in Psychiatry and sub-specialization in Child and Adolescent psychiatry. She has extensive years of medical training and over 14 years of clinical practice. She provides compassionate, high quality, holistic, evidence-based mental healthcare to the pediatric population. Dr. Bell provides psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic workup, diagnosis, treatment and therapy to her patients, ensuring a holistic approach to mental wellness. She has dedicated her career to improving children’s mental health so they can meet their developmental milestones and become productive members of society in near future. She is also an advocate for children’s mental health at both state and federal levels.

Professional Program Development

Tranquil Haven LLC is a pediatric outpatient mental health clinic. It has a mission to improve the mental fitness of our patients by cultivating a nonjudgemental community where mental wellness is a top priority. We provide high quality, evidence based, psychiatric care with a compassionate approach to treating children and we instill preventative mental health strategies and resiliency building skills in our patients. Services we provide: Psychiatric psychiatry, individual therapy, group therapy, parent management classes and school consultation. - The Bridge Crisis Clinic at CHKD: 10/2022- 06/2023
Performed a route cause analysis of the issues the previous bridge clinic. Presented the findings and vision of the new program to the ELT leadership of the MHSL. Significant changes were made to the program, making it not just a bridge clinic, but also an outpatient crisis stabilization clinic. With a goal of deviating patients from the ED and inpatient hospitalizations. The clinic received referrals from all aspects of the CHKD MHSL, and CHKD hospital system. We also received patients referred by community pediatricians. The main goal is stabilization of patients in the community and transitioning them to other providers once they are stable. - The Stable Bridge Clinic 2/2017-08/2019
An interim urgent pediatric mental clinic, created with a goal of rapidly stabilizing patients in the community. Patient were seen within 3 days of their referral. Referrals came from: the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Emergency Department, the inpatient unit, developmental pediatrics and pediatric neurology. The type of stabilization service provided was uniquely catered to the patients’ individual needs, with provision of medication management and or psychotherapy. Once patients got stabilized, the were safely transitioned other providers in the community. - The Pediatric Psychiatry Consult Service at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital VTC 2/2017-08/2019
This consult service was created to provide care to pediatric patients boarding in the ED and to provide a third level of triage and mental health services to decrease waiting time, provide treatment and prevent unnecessary hospitalizations. This consult service provided both crisis response and stabilization to patients who were consulted. Services provided by this consults service included: psychiatric evaluation, med management, disposition planning, re-evaluation every 24 hours and provision of behavioral health interventions, family meetings and coordination of care. Patients medically cleared by Pediatric ED doctors, where seen by the Connect team at Carilion which consisted of social workers/ LPC’s and psychiatric nurses, and who did Behavioral health assessments. The Pediatric psychiatry consult service (PPCS) was consulted when further clarity was needed on the disposition planning, initiation of stabilization prior to inpatient hospitalization or patients on observation.
